Charlotte’s Journey

Meet Charlotte, one of the many people in and around Bridgwater who have discovered the benefits of commuting by bike.

Once we get over the initial hurdle of getting started, it’s a simple switch that many of us can make… and most of us never look back!

This exemplifies what Bridgwater Area Cycling Campaign is all about – namely, encouraging people to make more of their everyday journeys by bike.

Charlotte with her bike

Like so many of us, Charlotte admits she has always struggled with her weight and her general fitness. But she was determined to make a positive change, and in May last year decided to start riding her bike to work. Her commute is 7.5 miles each way – a 15-mile round trip – but that didn’t put her off. In fact, she cycles day and night and in all weathers!

She saves around £80 a month in fuel bills by riding to work. But the benefits aren’t just financial: Since switching to the bike, she has lost over two stone, improving her long-term health prospects and boosting her mental health, too!

Charlotte says, “when I am cycling, I feel free to just be me!”
