Introduction

The Westover District, covers the west side of the town centre from the south side of the Docks to the Broadway and includes such areas/streets, as; Northgate, High Street, Cornhill, The Moat, Mount Street, Kings Square, Castle Street, The Clink, West Quay, Binford Place, St Mary’s Street, Fore Street, Kings & Queen Streets, Frain Street, Mount Street, Blake Gardens, etc.

There is one major planning application within this district, namely Northgate yard (cinema & shopping complex). Other infrastructure & town developments & which may occur here are the possibilities of introducing Liveable Neighbourhoods (LN) and the Town Development Forum (TDF) funding improvements. Northgate Yard

This major development planning application has been grant permission and the cinema & shopping complex is currently being built, estimation is that this will be completed by October 2022. BACC have raised concerns and placed comments within the Brewery Field development area (see application 08/20/00204), this area includes all the main cycling & walking improvements.

We have also met with Sedgemoor District Council (SDC) Planning Officers to discuss our concerns and raise the feasibility of better through site access provision.

The main issues associated with BACC planning comments in brief are; Cycle corridor (the complex has not designed a ‘through route’ for cyclists and/or has properly considered the how cyclists will pass through and access the town centre areas), Aston Way (the crossing here requires safety features built in) & the Brewery Field path (the path requires expanding beyond its designed width and demarcation should be introduced between cyclists & pedestrians).

Outcome statements to be added in future!
