Introduction
The Wembdon area has potential plans for significant housing estates across the district, from the initial Cokerhurst Farm development (238 dwellings proposed) to the expansion down towards Sandford taking in the land between the main A39 and the Wembdon route B3339 (top B2 on map) and then further more estates on the other side of the A39 taking in land up to Queenwood Farm (bottom B2 on map).
These are significant estates, which could reach up to 1200 houses being built over the years to come. Not only are we concerned about the cycle routes within these new developments, there are also potential connecting corridors here to be reviewed, for example through Skimmerton Lane and across the new estates.
Cockerhurst Farm
This estate of 238 dwellings has got full planning permission (see application 51/19/00003) and has been reviewed throughly by the Wembdon Parish Council (WPC) planning committee. BACC have looked over the WPC planning comments, which propose cycle routes and footpaths throughout the estate.
Of particular note is the requirement that a new footway / cycleway should also be created, past the rear of the houses in Quantock Meadow. This would have the added advantage of providing alternative safe routes from the proposed development to Whitegates Roundabout and the Wembdon Rise / Homberg Way junction.
Link to the ‘WPC Planning Comments‘, BACC have also added brief planning comments, that mainly supports the WPC proposals.
Outcome statements to be added in future!
And the next estate?
