Dunball to Express Park
BACC cycling audit members completed an on site survey between the Dunball and the Express Park Roundabouts using Somerset County Council (SCC) provided & detailed drawings (WSP Project Number: 62102424-003 sheets 001 through to 008).
Following this audit, we have created a ‘BACC Invention Report‘ (full report detail is available), where we have recommended nine design change recommendations, which were fundamentally looking at safety and driving towards meeting national LTN 1/20 standards, especially creating an ‘open space approach’ and safe cycling corridors into the heart of our town.

As this scheme develops, we will update this page to keep you informed.
Currently, BACC has carried out a detailed cycle audit survey, put together a Dunball Roundabout to Express Park (element 2) Report, suggested nine recommendations and actions that are critical, particularly when considering peoples safety.
Recommendations in brief; existing paths to be improved, entrances and exits from Bristol Road industrial sites to be made safe for cyclists & walkers, existing and proposed dangerous slipways on to the main A38 to be removed (existing) or not built (proposed), major road crossing points at the HPC junction and particularly the Express Park dual carriageway crossing to be enhanced considerably with new safety design features introduced, grass verge must be retained along the full length of the Bristol Road for a number of salient purposes and the unsafe King Sedgemoor Drain bridge requires a newly built cantilever bridge to ensures that path changes from 1.6 m (extremely dangerous) to a standard safe 3m wide.
This is a cycling and walking improvement in to Bridgwater that has come directly out EDF community funded monies and it will be important with this scheme (as with all schemes) that we apply to the Department of Transport (DfT) standards driven from the ‘Gear Change’ document and spelled out in the Local Transport Note (LTN – 1/20) guidance. It should therefore be noted that the DfT has stated “we will not fund or part-fund any scheme that does not meet these new standards”.
