Social Ride to Cheddar

Fresh Air & Adventure!

It is just great to get outside in the fresh air. It’s good for our wellbeing, good for our mental health, and helps reduce our anxieties. Cycling and walking are great activities to make this happen.

Sometimes, it is also worth pushing your boundaries and being a bit more adventurous. We do have to be careful and think about our physical abilities but why not take in a bit more distance, try a new route (even if you get a bit lost), climb one or two hills and feel that you have achieved something. This is what we have done this month on our social ride to Cheddar

A number of us go out on regular monthly social rides normally doing about 30 miles, generally over a flat terrain, enjoying each other’s company and soaking in the Somerset landscape and quiet roads. To challenge ourselves, we recently rode from the Glastonbury area, past Westhay Moor Nature Reserve, and up through Cheddar Gorge (I did have to get off and walk on the second sharp bend), down the steep Ebbor Gorge and back to our starting point. What an adventure!

Cycling with a group of friends is a real pleasure, stopping for coffee & cake, chatting along the whole route and mostly the weather is kind to us.

During the summer months, we intend to run led rides around the Bridgwater area. These led rides are particularly targeted at those people who feel a bit unsafe cycling on the town streets and urban areas. Safe and enjoyable routes will be organised (18 and over only) to show the public that it is possible to safely cycle around some areas of our town.

If you are interested in attending one of these rides, please let us know at bridgwaterareacyclingcampaign@gmail.com
