What is a Liveable Neighbourhood? Is this something that you believe would be good for our town?
Liveable Neighbourhoods (also known as low traffic neighbourhoods) are areas where space is created, so that people can remain safe in a low traffic environment.
Residential areas in cities and towns are often used by through-traffic, which creates noise, pollution and hazards. A Liveable Neighbourhood (LN) is a simple and cost-effective way to reduce through-traffic, while maintaining vehicle access to homes, businesses and deliveries. Liveable neighbourhoods promote and prioritise walking, cycling and public realm improvements, without disadvantaging people with mobility restrictions.
These areas are better for your health, the environment and as evidence shows, also local businesses!
The Bath & North West Somerset Council are committed to breathing new life into residential areas and as such have created a public consultation document.
Should Somerset County Council (SCC) replicate Bath’s approach and start a public consultation here?
